At the serene village of Thingba Khunou in Senapati District lives a hardworking and determined farmer, PN Heli, a 46-year-old father of seven children whose life story reflects perseverance, vision, and hope. From supporting a large family to building a successful kiwi orchard, his journey stands as an inspiration to many farmers across the region.
As the father of seven children, PN Heli carries immense responsibilities. His eldest child is appearing for the NEET examination this year, aspiring for a bright future in the medical field, while his youngest child is only five years old and studying in KG-1. Providing quality education and securing a stable future for his children has always been one of his greatest motivations.
In 2019, driven by his own initiative and passion for farming, PN Heli began cultivating kiwi fruit on a small scale. At that time, many people were uncertain about the potential of kiwi cultivation in the area. Yet, with determination and hard work, he continued nurturing his plants with hope and patience.
A turning point came when he joined the MOVCDNER scheme implemented through the Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA). The support and encouragement he received under the programme gave him the confidence to expand his dream. Today, he proudly owns around 1,200 kiwi plants spread across 6 hectares of land, transforming his once modest initiative into a thriving orchard.
Further strengthening his farm, he also received 300 trellis posts and GI wires from the North Eastern Council through the Horticulture Department, which significantly improved the infrastructure of his kiwi plantation.
His dedication has now begun to bear fruit. In 2025 alone, PN Heli generated an income of nearly ₹3 lakhs from his kiwi farm. Encouraged by the growing productivity and market potential, he is hopeful of earning around ₹5 lakhs this year.
PN Heli expresses deep gratitude to MOMA and the service provider DSSS for the continuous support extended under the MOVCDNER scheme, from providing planting materials and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) assistance to infrastructure support for FPCs and various capacity-building trainings. According to him, these interventions have not only improved his farming practices but also strengthened his confidence as a farmer and entrepreneur.
Today, PN Heli’s story is more than just a tale of agricultural success. It is a story of resilience, commitment to family, and the power of opportunity. From a small farmer with a vision to a successful kiwi grower inspiring others in the community, his journey proves that with determination, support, and hard work, even the smallest initiative can grow into a flourishing future.
